Speed Maintenance Menus

Athletic Development · U15–U19

Obj: Max velocity kept year-round — the weekly speed touches that stop the season from making players slower: maintenance as policy (7.4's year-round mandate; the sprint's use-it-or-lose-it answered). Field: 50×20yd speed lanes. Equip: Cones, timing gates when available. Org: The maintenance dose: flying 10s/20s (build-ups into short maximal-velocity windows — the top gear touched, not ground), sprint-mechanics refreshers (J-02's cues at speed — posture and arms re-cued in the fastest state), and position-flavored speed (wingers' curved max-velocity runs, fullbacks' repeat overlaps at near-max, CBs' recovery-run builds — 10.x's speed demands honored specifically). Small doses, full recoveries, placed early in sessions on fresh legs (quality's non-negotiables); frequency weekly even in-season (the maintenance principle — speed decays in weeks, not months). CP: (1) Touch top speed weekly or lose it monthly (the policy's physiology in one line); (2) fresh legs only (speed work last is speed work wasted — 5.1's structure accommodates); (3) relaxation at max velocity (J-02's "fast is loose" at its truest test). Prog: Gate-timed flys logged (J-14's data between combines); resisted/assisted variants for the advanced annex. Reg: Shorter flys; build-up emphasis. Mist: C: dropping speed in heavy fixture weeks entirely (trim volume, keep the touch — the maintenance dose is small by design); conflating this with conditioning (J-10 is the engine; this is the top gear — different sessions, different rules). Time: 8–10 min weekly, early-session. Out: Max-velocity data held or climbing across the season (the maintenance proof); position-speed demands served. Var: Race formats sparingly (competition sharpens; overuse injures — the dose discipline extends to fun). Diag: Speed lane with build-up zone, flying-window gates, relaxation cues at max velocity, the weekly-touch calendar chip.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
