Footwork-to-Save Chains

Goalkeeping · U12–U19

Obj: The save's full sentence — travel, set, save, recover as one chained motion: I-02's feet and I-03's dives composed into match grammar. Field: Goal area + arc. Equip: Goal, balls, cones. Org: Chain circuits: shuffle-set-save (lateral travel to an angled serve), drop-set-save (the retreating chain for the clipped ball — footwork backward without square shoulders), post-to-post chains (the across-goal scramble: push off the post, travel, set, save far side), and chain-plus (I-16's recovery appended — no chain ends at the first save). Serve timing honest (struck when the coach sees the set, then increasingly BEFORE it — the imperfect set's save trained too: match truth). CP: (1) The chain's quality is the FIRST link's (travel speed buys set time buys save chance — the sentence read backward); (2) never save while traveling if the set exists (a planted half-set beats a moving guess); (3) when the serve beats the set: save with the shape you have (the block, the leg, the improvised — I-13's late-info law). Prog: Chains lengthen (double travels, second serves); direction unannounced. Reg: Single links isolated; slower serves. Mist: P: pretty chains at drill speed collapsing at serve speed (the before-the-set serves audit it); C: chains without the recovery link (I-16's inheritance — no first save is final). Time: 12 min. Out: Chain fluency at match tempo; imperfect-set saves banked; travel speed timed. Var: Game-picture chains (the cutback's travel-and-set — G-14's delivery from the keeper's side). Diag: Three chains drawn: lateral shuffle-set-save, drop-set for the clip, post-to-post scramble — each with the set moment starred and the recovery link appended.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
