Through-Ball Sweeping

Goalkeeping · U12–U19

Obj: The sweeper's decision tree — sweep, delay, or retreat: the space behind the line owned by judgment first, legs second. Field: Half field, high line marked. Equip: Goal, balls, cones, bibs. Org: Through-balls played behind a staged back line with a striker released: the keeper reads and calls his verdict aloud as he acts — "SWEEP!" (first to the ball by clear margin: clear long and wide, or control-and-play when time truly allows, D-16's wisdom in gloves), "DELAY!" (50/50 or worse: hold the edge, stay big, buy the recovery — E-06's craft in the keeper's version), "AWAY!" (the line's recovering, retreat and set). Verdict quality graded above outcomes (right call + beaten by pace beats wrong call + lucky). CP: (1) The verdict forms as the PASS is struck (starting position + first read = the margin); (2) sweep clearances go WIDE, never central (the sliced central clear is the classic disaster); (3) the delay's stance holds the striker's decision hostage (I-10's spread, at range). Prog: Line heights vary (E-19's partnership live — the keeper's depth mirrors the line); angled through-balls and bouncing chaos. Reg: No striker (read-and-run only); announced serves. Mist: P: sweeping on pride into lost races; C: grading outcomes over verdicts. Time: 14 min. Out: Verdict accuracy climbing (logged); starting positions creeping braver as reads sharpen. Var: Full E-19 integration (the line + keeper as one system, their session merged). Diag: Through-ball behind a marked line, three verdict arrows (sweep-to-wide, delay-at-edge, retreat-and-set) with the read moment starred at the pass's strike.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
