Second-Phase Chaos

Set Pieces & Restarts · U14–U19

Obj: After-the-set-piece scrambles owned — the cleared corner's next ten seconds: recycled deliveries, edge-of-box strikes, and the transition wars that decide set pieces more often than first contacts do. Field: Box + surrounding 20yd. Equip: Goal, balls, bibs, GK. Org: Every rep starts where set-piece sessions usually stop: a staged first-phase clearance (varied — headed clear to the edge, scrambled wide, caught and thrown) and the second phase lives: ATTACKING second phases (the edge-of-box recycler's menu — re-deliver to the re-loading box, the G-18 strike through traffic, the switch to the weak-side arrival; the box RE-LOADS on the recycle call: re-marking, re-arriving, G-09's spots re-occupied in four seconds); DEFENDING second phases (the clearing team's ten seconds — push out as a line on the clearance, E-19's discipline; the counter-outlet's release, E-28's sword; the re-defend when the recycle beats the push). Scramble scoring both ways (F-16's craft in its richest habitat). CP: (1) The set piece isn't over until it's DEAD-dead (G-24's law at team scale — the recycler's readiness is a position); (2) push out TOGETHER on clearances (stragglers play everyone onside at the worst address); (3) the re-load is choreography (four seconds, spots re-filled, marks re-found — chaos survived by structure). Prog: Chained phases (second-phase clearances birth third phases — the full war); transition finishes (cleared-and-countered to the far goal — E-27/F-12 attached). Reg: Slower staging; phases separated. Mist: P: attacking players jogging out as the clearance drops (the second phase scores on exactly them); C: whistling set-piece reps dead at the clearance (H-02's inherited rule — never). Time: 14 min biweekly. Out: Second-phase goals for, near-zero against; push-out discipline; the recycler role manned. Var: Numbers chaos (defending second phases a man down — tournament realism). Diag: Corner cleared to the edge, the recycler's three-option menu (re-deliver/strike/switch), the box re-loading with four-second badge, defensive push-out line and counter-outlet contrasted.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
