Defending Corners Hybrid

Set Pieces & Restarts · U13–U19

Obj: The hybrid system installed — zonal six-yard coverage plus man-marks on their aerial threats: everyone's job, every corner, identical every week (2.10's defensive law). Field: Box, goal + GK. Equip: Goal, balls, cones, bibs. Org: The system built role by role: 4–5 zonal players ladder the six-yard line (attack EVERYTHING in your zone — zone means aggression, not spectating), man-markers assigned to their two–three flagged threats (touch-tight, ball-side, E-15's marking law), one near-post sentinel (U13–15 mandatory; coach's discretion above), two counter-outlets high (the fortress with a sword, E-28's principle at corners). GK owns the command layer: his claim call clears the zone ("KEEPER!" = everyone out of his path, I-07/I-15). Live serves in volume; clearance addresses drilled (high-wide-long, or the outlet's chest — D-22 defending). CP: (1) Zonal players attack the ball's flight FIRST touch — hesitation in the zone is the system's only leak; (2) markers watch MAN then ball (their run is your run); (3) the second ball after every clearance is half of corner defending (E-22's scrambles live here). Prog: Opponent-mirror serves (their routines from the scout, H-12/E-30); numbers-down reps (defending corners at 10 men). Reg: Passive attackers; roles walked. Mist: P: zone-campers watching flight overhead; C: reshuffling roles weekly (the system's power is its sameness). Time: 15 min weekly in-season. Out: Corners-against conceding near-zero from first deliveries; second-ball wins tracked. Var: Short-corner defense attachment (the 2v1 wide alarm — who steps, who covers). Diag: Box with zonal ladder on the six, man-marks glued to starred threats, near-post sentinel, GK's claim path, two counter-outlets beyond.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
