Final-Third Free Play

Finishing & Final Third · U13–U19

Obj: Zone 3 creativity protected — the license made real: free play in the final third where attempts are the currency and the model's 2.1.8 clause governs (the session that keeps the flair alive that every other session organizes). Field: Final third + 10yd, goal + GK, counter-gates. Equip: Goal, balls, cones, bibs. Org: Continuous attack-vs-defense games (6v5, 7v6) with ONE scoring overlay: CREATIVITY ATTEMPTS score whether they succeed or not — a nutmeg try, an audacious through-ball, a flick combination, a G-25 bait, an invented move = 1 pt attempted, 3 completed (the economy states the clause: in Zone 3, the attempt IS club-positive; hesitation is the only mistake). Coaches referee generously and NARRATE the attempts aloud ("flick — yes! point!") — the naming is the culture-building. Defense plays honestly (creativity vs. real resistance or it's a circus). CP: (1) Officially minimal (A-38's discipline): the license needs air, not instruction; (2) the one repeated frame: "what would you try if you couldn't fail?" — then point at the scoreboard that makes it true; (3) defenders: your resistance is the gift (real defending makes real creativity — pride in both roles). Prog: Attempt categories rotate spotlight bonuses (nutmeg week, no-look week — variety seeded); U16+ versions tie attempts to G-28's chance-quality talk (creativity WITH selection — the adult synthesis). Reg: Smaller games (3v2 — more touches, more tries); attempt categories listed on a board for the idea-stuck. Mist: P: circus-for-circus far from goal (the ZONE is the license's border — Zone 1 flicks meet D-16's wisdom instead); C: the eye-roll at failed attempts (one coach wince un-writes the whole clause — 1.3's courage protection is FOR this moment). Time: 16 min, weekly in some form (the Friday flavor, A-38's cousin). Out: Attempt volume up and celebrated; invention appearing in matches (tagged and shown in film sessions — 8.5's positive-clip quota loves this); the creative kids visibly freer, the cautious kids visibly braver. Var: "Invented move Friday" (A-10's variation graduated — name a move after its inventor when it works; club folklore is a development tool). Diag: Final third with attempt icons scattered (nutmeg, flick, no-look, bait), the generous scoreboard counting tries, the zone's border marked where the license begins.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
