Three-Goal Chaos

Transitions · U11–U14

Obj: Multi-goal transition scanning — three goals, constant re-orientation: the transition game where the best option changes every second and heads must swivel to find it. Field: 35×35yd triangle-ish space, three pug goals facing inward at the points. Equip: Cones, 3 pug goals, balls, bibs. Org: 5v5 (or 4v4v4 rotating). Either team may score in ANY of the three goals — but a goal only counts if it's the goal their nearest defender is NOT protecting (attackers must scan all three and attack the abandoned one; the rule enforced loosely by the coach's judgment, generously at first). Every regain therefore triggers a full-field re-scan: which goal is open NOW? Transitions become orientation puzzles at kid-appropriate joy levels. CP: (1) Win the ball, lift the head, count the goals — the scan IS the counter's first move; (2) attack the goal the defense forgot (their transition confusion is the opening — chaos reads both ways); (3) defenders: on losing the ball, the nearest three split toward three goals (zone instinct born from necessity). Prog: Goals worth different points by distance (risk-reward layering); 4v4v4 (two teams defend while one attacks — alliance chaos). Reg: Two goals; "any goal counts" simplification. Mist: P: scoring on the defended goal out of tunnel vision (the rule exists to break exactly this); C: over-structuring the chaos (this is a scanning game wearing a party costume — let it be loud). Time: 14 min. Out: Regain-scan-reorient loops; multi-option transition thinking; laughter with curriculum inside it. Var: Goals on wheels (coach drags one goal mid-round — the ultimate re-scan trigger, and the kids' favorite thing all week). Diag: Triangular space with three inward-facing goals, regain moment with a scan-fan to all three, attack arrow at the abandoned goal, defenders splitting.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
