Turnover Tennis

Transitions · U11–U15

Obj: Constant-transition small games — possession flipping every few seconds: reaction volume so high the transitions become the game's texture. Field: Two 20×15yd courts side by side. Equip: Cones, balls, bibs, pug goals. Org: 4v4 on each court, but the coach serves a NEW ball to the non-scoring team the instant any ball dies (goal, out, or won) — no stoppages, no resets, possession's start always contested. Every serve is a transition: the receiving team breaks, the other swarms. Rolling 3-minute games; courts ladder by results (A-17's structure). The volume math: 25+ transitions per game vs. 4–5 in normal play. CP: (1) The ball dying is the alarm clock: react before the serve lands; (2) transition roles by proximity, instantly — nearest breaks/presses, farthest balances (no assigned positions at this speed, pure principle); (3) score fast or secure fast — the next serve is coming (decision speed forced by format). Prog: Serves thrown to 50/50 spots (F-16's scrambles seeded); two-ball chaos rounds (both live — scanning's stress test). Reg: Slower serve rhythm; 5v3 courts. Mist: P: resting between serves (there is no between — the format's gift is its cruelty); C: serving predictably (vary height, side, timing — the reaction is the rep). Time: 15 min. Out: Transition reaction volume massive; proximity-role fluency. Var: GK-served version (every serve from a keeper's distribution — I-09 volume). Diag: Court with a goal being scored and the coach's new serve already arriving to the other team, both teams' instant transition arrows, serve-count tally.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
