Objectives: Automatic six-second counter-press reaction; swarm vs. lane-cut roles; the sprint-home decision when the swarm fails. Serves 2.5.
Field: 40×30yd, three teams of 5, two big goals with GKs (or end zones for U12).
Organization: Team A attacks Team B's goal; Team C waits split behind both goals. The moment A loses the ball, B counters to either goal and A must counter-press for a 6-count (coach counts down loudly). If A regains within 6 → their goal counts double. If B escapes the swarm, A must sprint behind the ball line — any A player caught ball-watching concedes a penalty point. Losing team rotates out for C.
Coaching points: (1) The loser leads the press — no sulking step; (2) nearest three swarm ball and outlets, others cut forward lanes, not chase; (3) if it's escaped — sprint past the ball, then defend.
Progressions: Silent count (internalized clock) → 6v6 with rest-defense rule (one player must always be "home" pre-loss) → full-field 8v8 version.
Regressions: Coach freezes at the loss moment and assigns roles verbally first 3 reps · reduce to 4v4.
Common mistakes: Players: all five chasing the ball (no lane-cutters); jog-pressing (a 70% press is a 0% press). Coaches: conditioning disguised as transition work — if the picture isn't clean, it's just sprints.
Timing: 20 min. Expected outcomes: Regain-within-6 percentage climbs; the sprint-home behavior appears without prompting.
Variations: Reward vertical first pass after regain (2.6.1 combined) · GK-start version where losses come from build-out (marries TL-D-05).

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
