Front-Screen Strikers

Pressing & Defending · U13–U19

Obj: The 9 and 10's pressing craft — pressing forward while screening backward: the front line's double duty that makes the whole scheme work (10.6/10.8's defensive identities). Field: 40×30yd. Equip: Cones, balls, bibs. Org: Building 6 (back four + pivot + GK-stand-in) vs. a pressing front 2 (the 9 + 10, rotating pairs) with two midfield teammates behind. The front pair's curriculum: the 9 curve-presses CBs while shadowing the pivot (E-04's hardest form); the 10 screens the pivot when the 9 presses, jumps the second CB on the back-pass trigger; both herd toward the agreed side. Behind them, the midfield two harvest the forced passes. Forced-long-balls = 1 pt (the press worked), interceptions off herded passes = 3. CP: (1) Press with your cover-shadow ON — a 9 who presses in straight lines feeds their pivot all day (2.4.1's curve, the position's first law); (2) the front pair alternates: one presses, one screens, roles flipping with each pass — never both pressing, never both screening; (3) herding is scoring: the ball going where we AGREED is a win even when you never touch it (the invisible work made countable again). Prog: Building team adds a second pivot (screens must triage); full front-three version with wingers' jump assignments (E-18 merge upward). Reg: Building team two-touch; sides pre-agreed loudly. Mist: P: strikers pressing on frustration instead of triggers (energy spent when the scheme's off = minutes 70–90 conceded); C: exempting creative players from this curriculum (10.6's contract: the license is PAID FOR here). Time: 15 min. Out: Front-line curves with shadows; press/screen alternation fluent; forced-play counts as the front's stats. Var: GK-in-build version (pressing the keeper's angles — the modern front line's final exam). Diag: Front two vs. back four: the 9's curved press with shadow-cone on the pivot, the 10 screening then jumping on a back-pass trigger arrow, herded side agreed and marked, harvest midfielders behind.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
