The Trap Door

Pressing & Defending · U14–U19

Obj: Designed traps — the wide trap and the weak-player trap: inviting a specific pass, then springing the floor. Field: Half field. Equip: Cones, balls, bibs, goal. Org: Defending 8 vs. attacking 9 (they're +1 — traps exist because straight pressing can't win here). Two doors installed: DOOR 1 (wide): the near winger presses lazily-on-purpose, showing the fullback pass; when it travels, four collapse (D-19's trap from the hunter's side, the spring drilled — who slams, who seals the return, who screens inside). DOOR 2 (weak player): scouting names their weakest builder; our shape shades OFF him invitingly; when he receives, the nearest two spring while others seal his exits (2.4.6). Springs = 3 pts + instant counter live. CP: (1) The invitation must look like laziness, not strategy — sell it (pressing's B-16); (2) the spring is ALL-AT-ONCE: a gradual trap is just bad pressing; (3) seal the back door first — his easiest escape gets closed before the slam arrives. Prog: Attackers told a trap exists somewhere (disguise test); traps chained (escape Door 1 into Door 2). Reg: Coach calls the spring; attackers at 80%. Mist: P: springing early on the pass-fake (the trap's patience is its own skill); C: trapping without scouting context (Door 2 needs a real name on Saturday — 8.6's "trap opportunity" line). Time: 16 min. Out: Two doors installed and sprung; invitation-acting credible. Var: Goal-kick trap version (invite the short build, spring on the first bounce pass — E-11's dead-ball twin). Diag: Half field with lazy-press invitation arrow, fullback receiving, four-player spring converging, sealed return lane, trap-door graphic.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
