Compact Lines Walkthrough+Live

Pressing & Defending · U12–U16

Obj: The connected block's foundations — line spacing, unit sliding, and the "connected" feeling installed by walking before running. Field: 40×35yd. Equip: Cones, balls, bibs, two ropes (literal — see Org). Org: Phase 1 (6 min): two defensive lines of 4 HOLD ROPES across each line (the gimmick that teaches in one session what lectures never do) while coaches walk a ball around the perimeter — the lines slide, step, and drop together or the rope pulls someone. Phase 2 (10 min): ropes down, 8v8 live where the defending 8's line-spacing is graded (10–12yd between lines, 30-35yd total block width per 2.3.2) — coach freezes play twice per half to measure with steps, points awarded for compliance at freeze. CP: (1) You move when your line moves — connection over initiative; (2) the gaps between YOU and your neighbor belong to both of you; (3) compact center, concede wings (the model's defensive bargain). Prog: Lines shift on a live playmaker's switches; add the jump-press trigger release (block-to-press moments, E-26's seed). Reg: Walkthrough longer; one line at a time. Mist: P: ball-watching drift (the rope's lesson forgotten — re-rope for a minute, laughter included); C: measuring nothing (compactness ungraded is compactness imagined). Time: 16 min. Out: Line spacing felt, then held; freeze-measurements passing. Var: Rope-race opener as a warm-up game (lines competing on slide speed). Diag: Two lines of four connected by drawn ropes, slide arrows moving both together, block dimensions annotated 35×30.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
