Opponent-Mirror Builds

Build-Out & Progression · U15–U19

Obj: Scout-driven press replication — building against Saturday's actual press, rehearsed Thursday: the scouting report made flesh. Field: Half field, full width. Equip: Goal, cones, balls, bibs, scout sheet (8.6's template). Org: The second unit studies the scout card (10 min pre-session or prior evening film — their E-30 curriculum runs simultaneously) and replicates the opponent's press: its shape, its triggers, its trap side, its energy patterns ("they press hard for 60 minutes then die" = the mirror tires on schedule). The first unit builds against it with the playbook (D-13), discovering which calls beat THIS press — the match plan's three adjustments (8.3) emerge from what works, written down live. Units swap so both experience both sides. CP: (1) The mirror must be honest — replicators who press generically waste the session (their scout-reading is graded, 8.6); (2) builders: find this press's specific free man — every press shape leaves someone, and Saturday's is no different (the comfort this session exists to produce); (3) what works gets NAMED and becomes Saturday's plan — the session's output is the match plan's build section. Prog: Mirror adds the opponent's known adjustments ("when their first press fails, they drop to a block" — build vs. both phases); set-piece presses included (their corner-press, our short-corner escape). Reg: Mirror simplified to the press's two loudest features. Mist: P: treating it as a normal session (the specificity IS the value — name the opponent throughout); C: over-fitting (if the scout is wrong, principles still rule — the plan bends, the model doesn't, 2.12's adaptation clause). Time: 20 min (Thursday in-season staple). Out: Saturday's build pre-solved; three adjustments drafted from evidence; scout literacy on both units. Var: Post-match verification round the following week (did the mirror match reality? — 8.5's loop closed, scout accuracy graded). Diag: Half field with the opponent's specific press shape drawn from the scout card (labeled with their numbers), our build's discovered exit starred, a match-plan clipboard inset receiving the finding.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
