Build-Out & Progression · U12–U16

Obj: GK-involved keep-or-kick decisions under odds that shift — gambling literacy for the build: when the odds favor playing, play; when they don't, cash out smart. Field: Half field. Equip: Goal, cones, balls, bibs, odds board (whiteboard). Org: GK + 4 vs. pressers whose number the coach adjusts silently between reps (2 to 5). Every possession, the build unit reads its odds and chooses: PLAY SHORT (win = 3 pts at bad odds, 1 pt at good odds — braver bets pay more), or CASH OUT (the designed hatch/clear to the target zone = always exactly 1 pt). The scoring makes the lesson visceral: short builds against heavy presses are worth MORE when they succeed — but turnovers against heavy presses concede a free counter (instant 2 for the press). Risk literacy through consequences. CP: (1) Read the table before betting: press size, press energy (tired pressers = better odds), field state (2.12's chaos clause); (2) good odds demand ambition — cashing out against two pressers is cowardice the scoreboard now exposes; (3) bad odds demand humility — the 1-pt cash-out that avoids the free counter is professional play (D-04's arithmetic with stakes). Prog: Odds shift mid-possession (a presser sprints in — recalculate live); GK makes the call alone (his read graded). Reg: Odds announced; no counter-penalty. Mist: P: machismo betting (always-short regardless — the counter-concessions teach); C: moralizing either choice (the POINT is matching choice to odds, not preferring one). Time: 15 min. Out: Odds-reading vocabulary; choice-to-context matching; both courage AND wisdom scored. Var: Match-state stakes ("you're 1-0 up, 5 minutes left" — odds change with clocks, 2.12). Diag: Build shape with a press of variable size (2 shown solid, 3 more ghosted), two choice arrows: short-build (3 pts badge) vs. hatch cash-out (1 pt badge), counter-risk arrow behind the short option.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
