Build Against Two Strikers

Build-Out & Progression · U14–U19

Obj: The 2-press solutions catalog — every reliable answer to two strikers sealing the first line, drilled as a decision menu. Field: Half field, full width. Equip: Goal, cones, balls, bibs. Org: GK + back four + double pivot vs. 2 strikers + 4 midfield pressers. The catalog, one per round then free: (a) GK-as-third-CB (splits stay wide, keeper carries the middle ground — modern and mandatory); (b) the D-12 drop morphs; (c) fullback elevator (both push high, CBs go max-wide, the 2 can't cover 60 yards); (d) pivot split (one shows, one runs beyond the strikers' line — vertical stagger beats their flatness); (e) the hatch (when they're brave AND organized — D-06). Free rounds: the press varies its behavior; builders pick from the catalog live, naming the choice post-exit. CP: (1) Two strikers = they're outnumbered somewhere by definition — the catalog is just five ways of finding WHERE; (2) the GK option is the simplest and scariest — courage there is trained, not assumed (I-08 hours pay off here); (3) strikers pressing in curves vs. flat changes the answer: curves protect the middle (go wide), flat invites the split (go through). Prog: Their midfield jumps to support the 2 (now it's a real 4-4-2 press — combine catalog answers); 11v11 goal kicks. Reg: Catalog called by coach; 2+2 press only. Mist: P: defaulting to one favorite answer (the free rounds' naming requirement audits variety); C: treating the GK option as exotic (it's Tuesday). Time: 18 min. Out: Five answers fluent; press-shape reading; the 4-4-2 build problem retired as a fear. Var: Scout-mirror week (opponent's actual two-striker behavior replicated — D-23). Diag: Build shape vs. 2-4 press with five lettered solution arrows: GK step-in, 6-drop, fullback elevator, pivot vertical split, hatch clip.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
