Obj: When to go back to go forward — the U-turn as wisdom: recognizing dead ends early and recycling with tempo instead of dying nobly. Field: Half field. Equip: Goal, cones, balls, bibs. Org: 7 builders vs. 7 pressers (even numbers — dead ends WILL happen, by design). Standard progression scoring, plus the session's signature: the "GOOD U-TURN" — when a builder facing a closed picture plays backward within one touch and the team escapes out the other side within 4 passes, the sequence scores DOUBLE a normal progression (retreat-as-weapon priced above stubbornness). Forced turnovers from refusing the U-turn are replayed on the spot: "show me the U-turn version." CP: (1) The U-turn trigger: two defenders converging AND no forward option on your scan — that picture has one right answer, take it EARLY (late U-turns are just turnovers with extra steps); (2) backward passes travel FIRM with information ("turn!" or "man on!" attached — the recycler needs your eyes); (3) the U-turn's second half is mandatory: out the other side with tempo — retreat without re-attack is just retreat (2.2's escape-then-break). Prog: Press overloads one side heavily (U-turn frequency rises naturally); one-touch U-turns only. Reg: 7v5; coach flags dead ends aloud early rounds. Mist: P: U-turning from pictures they should play through (the double-score is for GENUINE dead ends — over-recycling gets the C-25 "circle" grade; both errors coached); C: praising heroic losses into triple coverage (courage is 2.2.6; stubbornness is not). Time: 15 min. Out: Dead-end recognition speed; retreat-and-release rhythm; turnover count from forced play drops. Var: GK-inclusion (the deepest U-turn station — back-passes as weapons, I-17's positive frame). Diag: Build picture with two converging defenders, early backward pass arrow, ball re-routed through the far side within a 4-pass bracket, double-score badge.
