Pivot Pathways

Build-Out & Progression · U13–U19

Obj: The 6's build-out geometry — receiving angles, cover-shadow escapes, and body shapes that turn the pivot from outlet to engine (B-20's build-specific sibling). Field: Half field's central corridor, 30×20yd. Equip: Cones, balls, bibs, GK + 2 servers as CBs. Org: Pivot works vs. 1 then 2 pressers between him and the CBs. Pathway menu rehearsed then live: (a) the LATERAL slide (two steps sideways out of the shadow as the CB's head rises); (b) the DROP-IN (between the CBs, forming a back three — when both pivots' space is dead); (c) the SPIN-RELEASE (show to receive, spin off the presser's commit, receive beyond him); (d) the WALL (one-touch bounce when marked tight, immediately re-angling). Live scoring: receptions that lead to a forward pass = 2; wall-bounces that free a CB carry = 1 (the decoy economy again). CP: (1) The shadow moves with the presser's hips — escape perpendicular to his facing, not backward; (2) receive across the body EVEN under contact (the half-turn is non-negotiable at this position, 10.4); (3) drop-ins are tools, not habits — overuse makes the team a back five in disguise. Prog: Double-pivot version (pathways coordinated — C-14 merge); pressers use back-pass triggers. Reg: One passive presser; pathways called by the coach. Mist: P: showing on the same line as the shadow repeatedly (perpendicular law); C: accepting back-to-goal receptions as success (direction of the NEXT pass is the grade). Time: 15 min. Out: Four pathways fluent; forward-exit percentage climbing. Var: GK-included version where the pivot conducts the D-09 atom. Diag: Central corridor with CBs low, pivot mid, presser's cover-shadow cone shaded, four pathway arrows labeled a–d.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
