The 3-2-3 Machine

Positional & Possession Games · U11–U12

Obj: The 9v9 shape's possession-to-goal patterns — our 3-2-3 run as a machine: every part's job visible, every connection rehearsed. Field: 60×45yd (9v9 proportions), big goals + GKs. Equip: Cones, ball, bibs, goals. Org: 9v9 (or 9v7 to start). The possession team plays the 3-2-3; the session cycles focus through the machine's connections, 5 min each: (1) back-three + GK diamond vs. two pressers (the base); (2) pivots receiving from the base and finding the front (the transmission); (3) front-three width-depth-movement finishing the moves (the output). In each block, goals originating through that block's connection count triple — the machine learns part by part, then runs whole in a free final block. CP: (1) Base: GK makes the diamond — use him like a fourth defender (D-01's law); (2) transmission: pivots stagger always (C-14's junior form); (3) output: winger width holds until the moment (C-22), striker pins for the arriving parts. Prog: Even numbers; press triggers live for defenders; connection-blocks shrink to 3 min as fluency grows. Reg: 9v6; walk-through installs before each block. Mist: P: parts working alone (the triple-score targets connections, not zones); C: teaching all connections at once week one (one per week matches the curriculum's build, Section 6 P1–P2). Time: 24 min (the 9v9 tactical spine). Out: The 3-2-3's connections named and functioning; U13's 4-3-3 translation pre-loaded (D-21's runway). Var: Opposed vs. shadow-play ratio tuned by group readiness. Diag: 9v9 field with the 3-2-3 drawn, three shaded connection zones (base/transmission/output) with arrows linking them into one machine.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
