Positional Playoffs

Positional & Possession Games · U13–U19

Obj: A league-format positional-games block — competition wrapping the category's staples so intensity peaks and standings mean something. Field: 2–3 grids running simultaneously. Equip: Cones, balls, bibs, standings board. Org: Teams of 4–5 drafted (rotate captains — selection is a leadership rep, 7.5) play a round-robin of the category's games: one round of 4v4+2 Free-Man (C-02), one of Third-Man Threading (C-09 rules), one of Halfspace Boxes (C-05 rules), 6 minutes each. Standings on the board; the final pits the top two in the coach's choice game. Losing teams don't sit — consolation matches run parallel (everyone plays every round). CP: Minimal new teaching — this is an application block: (1) the week's theme gets one emphasis call per game; (2) compete standards: intensity honest, referee respected (players self-officiate with coach appeal — Four C's under pressure); (3) captains manage their team's energy and tactics (leadership live). Prog: Playoff formats evolve (semifinals, golden-goal finals); stat-of-the-day tracked (most third-man calls, best switch). Reg: Fewer games, longer rounds; coach referees everything. Mist: P: competition eroding standards (the first cheap shot or referee moan is THE coaching moment of the day); C: over-coaching during playoff play (you built the games all season — let them run). Time: 25 min block (typical Thursday). Out: Category skills under competitive fire; standings culture with sportsmanship intact. Var: Season-long league (weekly results accumulate — winter futsal version is A-32's ladder twin). Diag: Two adjacent grids with different games running, standings whiteboard inset, rotation arrows between rounds.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
