Fourth-Line Finding

Positional & Possession Games · U15–U19

Obj: Hitting the highest line directly from build — the pass that skips the middle and finds the front line's feet or runs (when it's on, nothing is faster). Field: 50×35yd; four attacker lines marked (GK/CB band, pivot band, attacking-mid band, front band). Equip: Cones, ball, bibs, GK. Org: 9v7: build unit (GK+4+2) vs. 5 pressers, with 3 front-line attackers vs. 2 defenders beyond a marked line. Standard progressions score 1; a direct "fourth-line" ball from the first two bands into the front three — to feet with a secure touch OR in behind for a run — scores 3, IF followed by a completed next action (the skip must lead somewhere; hopeful punts score zero, judged strictly). Pressers who intercept skips counter freely (the risk priced honestly). CP: (1) The fourth-line ball is ON when the middle pressers step up and the front's markers are flat — scan both facts pre-touch; (2) delivery menu: driven to feet (chest/thigh cushion — A-28's exam), or clipped behind for the run (weight = arrives in stride); (3) the front line makes it possible: one pins, one drops to receive, one runs beyond — never three statues (10.8's chains). Prog: Full 11v9; skip-balls only off bait sequences (C-17 chained); one-touch layoffs mandatory after receipt. Reg: No counters off interceptions; front 3v1. Mist: P: skipping as an escape from press-resistance work (the completion requirement filters this — incomplete skips are just kicks); C: letting the long ball become the diet (it's a knife, not a meal — track the ratio). Time: 18 min. Out: Skip-ball recognition and both deliveries; front-line coordination on receipt. Var: GK-initiated version (I-08/I-09 distribution range live). Diag: Field with four horizontal bands, bold arrow from CB band over the pivot band into the front band, front-three movement trio (pin/drop/run) marked.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
