Halfspace Boxes

Positional & Possession Games · U13–U19

Obj: Scoring via halfspace receptions — teaching the model's killing lanes as the possession game's treasure. Field: 35×30yd; four 6×6yd boxes marked in the halfspace positions (two per half). Equip: Cones, ball, bibs. Org: 7v7 possession; a controlled reception inside any halfspace box = 2 pts, but boxes "close" for 30 seconds after use (camp prevention — fresh pockets must be found). A reception in a box followed immediately by a forward pass = 4 pts (the reception is for something, 10.5). CP: (1) Arrive in the box as the ball travels — early arrivals get marked, late ones miss; (2) receive half-turned, next action pre-chosen; (3) the box pass comes off circulation that moved defenders away from it (bait rhythm). Prog: Defender may lock one box by standing in it (attackers read which are truly open); one-touch box play. Reg: Boxes always open; 7v5. Mist: P: standing in boxes waving (arrival timing IS the skill); C: rewarding receptions without the follow-up action. Time: 16 min. Out: Pocket arrivals timed; reception-to-forward-action chains. Var: Positional lock — only 8s/10s may score in boxes (masterclass use). Diag: Rectangle with four shaded halfspace boxes, arrival run curving into one as the pass arrives, forward-pass arrow out.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
