End-Zone Possession

Positional & Possession Games · U10–U13

Obj: Possession married to direction — keep the ball to go somewhere, the first cure for sterile circulation. Field: 30×20yd with 3yd end zones both ends. Equip: Cones, ball, bibs. Org: 5v5 (or 6v6). Score by receiving in the opponents' end zone under control — but a team may also bank 1 pt for 8 passes, creating the real decision: progress or keep? After scoring in an end zone, attack the other one (direction flips — heads up). CP: (1) Possession has a purpose: every pass either progresses, switches, or prepares progression (say which); (2) enter the zone with a pass to a moving teammate, not a parked one; (3) when the road forward closes, keeping is winning — recycle and re-probe. Prog: Zone receptions only off third-man patterns; add offside line at zone edge (U12+). Reg: Bigger zones; 6v4 overload. Mist: P: forcing zone entries every possession (patience is a weapon, 2.1.1); C: not tracking which players never attempt progressive passes (the data hides in plain sight). Time: 16 min. Out: Progress-vs-keep decisions verbalized; direction changes handled without chaos. Var: Double-zone (either end scores — switch bait). Diag: Rectangle with shaded end zones both ends, pass web center, entry pass to moving receiver arrow.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
