Rondo Pressure Test

Passing, Receiving & Rondos · U14–U19

Obj: The honest rondo: defenders rewarded properly so possession skills face real, motivated pressing (the antidote to comfortable rondos). Field: 12×12yd. Equip: Cones, ball, bibs, scoreboard. Org: 5v3. Defenders enter as a unit with their own live score: a clean win + 3 passes among the three of them = 3 pts (not just "you're out"); deflections that kill a split = 1. Attackers score standard (10 passes = 1, splits = 2, third-man = 2). Both scores tracked across rounds; teams swap roles — the same trio attacks and defends, and both halves of their game get graded. CP (attackers): (1) Real pressure punishes slow decisions — release the pass a beat earlier than comfortable; (2) the third man saves you when the direct lane dies. CP (defenders): (3) press as a triangle — first curves, second anticipates, third screens the split (2.4's rules in miniature). Prog: 4v3 (near-parity — elite); transitions live (winners attack to mini-goals immediately). Reg: 6v3; defender score off. Mist: P: attackers blaming teammates as pressure rises (culture moment — name it, reset it); C: running only comfortable rondos all season then wondering why matches feel different. Time: 14 min. Out: Possession quality under genuine duress; pressing craft trained simultaneously; both numbers feed player profiles. Var: Positional 6v4 with model stations (the full-honesty version of B-12). Diag: Square 5v3 with defender triangle shape marked (curve/anticipate/screen roles), dual scoreboard icon.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
