Check-Away Chemistry

Passing, Receiving & Rondos · U11–U15

Obj: Movement-to-receive timing between pairs: the check-away that creates the yard, and the pass that honors it. Field: 15×15yd grids. Equip: Cones, balls, one passive-to-live marker per grid. Org: Server + receiver + marker. Receiver's loop: walk toward the server's blind side → explosive check away (2–3 hard steps) → plant → burst back to receive on the half-turn. The server must read the check's rhythm and release as the receiver plants (early = intercepted, late = smothered — the chemistry is the timing conversation). Score: clean receptions on the half-turn. Rotate. CP: (1) Check-away must be a genuine sprint — markers ignore jogs; (2) plant-and-return within one second (the yard evaporates); (3) server strikes on the plant, to the front foot's space. Prog: Live marker choosing to track or sag (receiver counters: sag = turn, track = spin in behind — add the second option); double-checks (away-in-away). Reg: No marker; server calls the release aloud. Mist: P: checking with eyes down (scan mid-check — where's the marker?); C: coaching only receivers — half the failures are late passes. Time: 12 min. Out: Check-plant-receive loop timed; server-receiver pairs develop visible chemistry (name partnerships — it matters socially too). Var: Striker version to feet vs. spin-behind (10.8's link-vs-run seed). Diag: Grid with receiver's zigzag check-away arrow, plant point starred, return burst, server's release timed at the star.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
