Line-Breaking License

Passing, Receiving & Rondos · U12–U19

Obj: Vertical pass selection — when the line-break is on, which lane, and what pace (the license is earned by reading, not daring). Field: 35×25yd; two horizontal "defensive line" zones marked across the middle. Equip: Cones, balls, bibs. Org: 6 attackers below vs. 4 defenders holding the two line-zones (2+2), 2 targets above. Attackers circulate; any pass that travels through a line-zone to feet = 2 pts, through both lines = 4; around the zones = 1 (legal, lesser — the model's priority order made arithmetic). Defenders shift as units; their compactness opens and closes lanes in real rhythm. CP: (1) The lane opens for one second when defenders shift — circulate to cause the shift, strike as it happens; (2) break passes go firm to the back foot of a player already scanning; (3) refused break + kept ball beats forced break + turnover — say so out loud when it happens. Prog: Add a presser on the circulators (decisions under duress); receiving targets must turn after the break (end-to-end). Reg: One line-zone; walking defenders. Mist: P: admiring completed breaks while the ball dies (play THROUGH, then keep playing); C: celebrating only the 4-pointers — the refusals are the license. Time: 16 min. Out: Break-vs-recycle judgment visibly calibrating; firm verticals normalized. Var: GK + back-four version = D-14's sibling with real build shapes. Diag: Field with two shaded horizontal line-zones, circulation arrows below, one bold vertical arrow threading both zones to a target's back foot.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
