The Clock Rondo

Passing, Receiving & Rondos · U12–U19

Obj: Directional circulation — move the ball "around the clock" with purpose, breaking the ring when the shortcut appears. Field: 16yd-diameter circle, 8 stations like clock numbers. Equip: Cones, ball, bibs. Org: 8 attackers on the clock, 3 defenders inside. Ball must progress around the clock (any direction, neighbors or skip-one), but a pass across the clock face through the defenders (e.g., 12→6) scores 3 and resets. Defenders hunt the across-ball; attackers circulate to drag them, then strike. CP: (1) Circulation is bait — the across-pass is the point (2.2.3's bait-then-break in rondo form); (2) skip-passes move defenders faster than neighbor-passes; (3) the far-side players prepare the across-lane while the ball is opposite. Prog: Two-touch; across-passes must hit a moving receiver stepping in; 4 defenders. Reg: Neighbor passes only until rhythm forms; 2 defenders. Mist: P: forcing the across-ball early into traffic (patience IS the weapon); C: not celebrating the bait-work of players who never touch the scoring pass. Time: 14 min. Out: Bait-then-break rhythm internalized — the build-out's logic learned in a circle. Var: Clockwise-only rounds (constraint forces skip-pass craft); positional version with a pivot inside as a 4th "defender-zone" target. Diag: Circle of 8 stations, circulation arrows around the rim, bold across-pass line through 3 defenders.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
