Double-Rondo Switch

Passing, Receiving & Rondos · U12–U19

Obj: Recognize when the near picture is saturated and switch the point of attack — two rondos, one ball economy. Field: Two 10×10yd grids 15yd apart. Equip: Cones, balls, bibs. Org: 4v2 rondo in grid A; grid B holds 4 waiting attackers + 1 defender. On the coach's call — or, from round 2, whenever the attackers choose — the ball is switched by a driven pass to grid B, where play restarts instantly (one defender sprints across to make it 4v2 again; his hustle is graded). Switch quality scored: clean first-touch continuation in B = 2 pts. CP: (1) The switch decision comes from the picture (defenders compact = go), not fatigue; (2) receive the switch with an open body already playing the new rondo; (3) the switcher disguises — look inside, hit long. Prog: Both grids live simultaneously with two balls (chaos scanning); switch only allowed off a third-man release (B-10 chained). Reg: Coach calls all switches; slower transfer allowed a settle touch. Mist: P: switching as escape from pressure they should play through (coach asks "what did you see?"); C: grids too close (no real flight) or too far (dead time). Time: 15 min. Out: Switch recognition verbalized; transfer technique under match flight. Var: Three-grid triangle version (choice of two switch targets — U15+). Diag: Two squares with rondo in one, driven switch arc between, defender sprinting across.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
