5v2 Third-Man Rondo

Passing, Receiving & Rondos · U11–U19

Obj: The club's daily bread: third-man releases inside a 5v2 — see the free man appear before the ball moves. Field: 12×12yd. Equip: Cones, ball, bibs. Org: Standard 5v2, but scoring is specific: a split (2 pts) or any sequence where A's pass to B frees C for the next pass ("third-man release," called aloud by the players — the call is mandatory to score, because naming builds seeing). Defenders swap on wins. CP: (1) The player two passes away prepares while the first pass travels; (2) bounce players set first-time to the third man's foot; (3) don't force the split — the third man IS the way through most pictures. Prog: Two-touch max; third-man releases must alternate sides; 5v2 to 4v2. Reg: 6v2; unlimited touches. Mist: P: watching the ball instead of the next picture; C: not requiring the call — silent rondos hide who understands. Time: 12–15 min, near-daily U13+. Out: "Third!" audible constantly; release counts climb round-over-round. Var: Positional version — the 5 hold model-relative spots (pivot central, B-12 bridge). Diag: Square 5v2, numbered passing sequence 1-2-3 showing A→B freeing C, defender shadow shifting late.

The 3-point rule: pick your three coaching points before the session and be ready to answer for them (Manual 5.4).
